Incredible news - Permission Granted!

Yes! - We have been granted planning permission to build our eco-house!
After a five year temporary residency on the site which started in 2005, we succeeded in getting full permision in november 2009. The plan was originally to start in spring 2011, but we have decided to bring it forward to this year- we just couldn't wait that long!. The structure is a timber framed, straw bale buiding with a slate roof. It will include passive solar water heating, photovoltaic panels and the existing wind generator.

Low Ecological Footprint

Living in this alternative way it's easy to think you are being green, but now there is a way to quantify it. As part of the lead up to the planning application we embarked on an ecological footprint analysis which looked at our whole lifestyle over a period of 3 months and then based on this information calculated our impact. Through this process it has been shown that our footprint is 44% that of the average uk houshold.

Burial site

We have finally established the new Natural Burial site. This can now provide a non denominational and ecologically friendly resting place for people in this area of Cornwall. It is a lovely peaceful spot with views over to dartmoor and the sea.

Roundhouse

We have built a woodland shelter 'roundhouse' in the new planted coppice as a shelter for walkers in the community access area, a venue for educational events and for ceremonies linked with the new Natural Burial site. The structure is a roundwood timber frame, with 8 inner supports bearing a navaho hogan reciprocating roof and 12 outer support bearing an additional lean-to. The roof is covered with turf and the walls are clad in timber to half hieght This year however we will be replacing the cladding with wattle and daub panels (see Courses 2010 below). The basic benches inside provide seating for about 30. It is available to hire for events- please contact us for details.
