Fund Raising Events

We had an excellent start with the "Chinese Entertains" evening, which with reclaimable Gift Aid raised, just under £1,000 and it was good to note the subsequent article in The Stratford Herald. The importance of wide pre- publicity for all our  forthcoming events is noted for action.

A very big THANK YOU to Evelyn and Lim for all their hard work in organizing this event.
By the time you read this our second monthly event will have taken place with a concert by Wilson Roberts and Friends.

On Friday 23rd April at 7.30pm we have a St. George's Day Supper and Entertainment, organized by Maureen and Keith Beckett and tickets will be available later.

Other dates for your diary:

Saturday morning 22nd May Car boot and table top sale
Saturday 29th  May American Choir Concert

2011

Saturday 15   January 2011 Murder Mystery Evening to be Organized by Avonside Players

We will be pleased to receive any of your thoughts and ideas for our
next meeting on Monday 19th April 2010.    Bertie Tuckey

This is so far on fund raising.

We will have had our first craft stall at the concert on March 6th. Let us know if you have items that we could sell at future events

Bookings for teas have already started coming in from the advert hi Methodist Recorder. This is such a good way of raising funds and not costing anything other than your time. Please let Liz Walker and Kath Fraser know if you are willing to help. Many hands make light work and even if you can't help on the day a batch of cakes is always welcome.

Some people met on Tuesday, 23rd February to look at items that can be made for sale either through the year but mostly for the pre-christmas bazaar on November 6th. W will be meeting on an ad-hoc basis and would really love your help. The next date is to be March 24th in the side rooms from 2pm-4pm. Come if you can -your committee can't manage it by themselves.

Harvest in October.

Is there anyone brave enough to join a small group to co-ordinate the Harvest activities hi October. If you are please contact Kath Fraser.

Do you have good items you no longer use which are in the way at home? Why not book a table at the tabletop/carboot sale on 22nd May and sell them for yourself. The fund gets £10 for each table or car space taken up and you've minimalised your home very easily. Give it a try and if you don't think you have enough for one table, why not share it with a friend - only £5 each. If on the other hand you have items you do not want but do not wish to sell personally, there may even be a general table for donated items. Please, no jumble.   Watch this space or Sunday's leaflet.

If you are free on Saturday April 3rd come and join us for an Easter Tea at 2pm and perhaps arrange some flowers as well.

Liz Walker has volunteered to take on the role of Pastoral Secretary.

Tea Towels
Does anyone have any spare tea towels at home? We are getting very short in the church kitchen.

Worship Art Workshop Saturday 13 March, St Martin's Church Hall, Green Lane, Finham, Coventry. (9.30 am for 10am start, ending at 3pm.) If you have a dream to share the Jesus story in pictures - then this workshop is for you. We base the day on prayer and Bible extracts, and let God show us how to translate the words of the Bible into picture form. Bring a Bible, any art/creative materials and your lunch - drinks supplied. No charge - donations to Christian Aid. Please book with Rosa Wain at rogerwain@hotmail.com or 01788 565725.

Subject: Thank you   - To everyone at Stratford Methodist Church,
We would like to thank you so much for making us so welcome when we came to share in your worship this Sunday. We did not feel like strangers - everyone we spoke to made us feel like valued friends who had been members of your congregation for years.
Your church has a lovely atmosphere, which radiates the love of Christ. Our visit was the perfect end to a lovely weekend in Stratford. Thank you again - and we hope to return to visit you in the future.

Every blessing, Natalie and Robert, Hall Lane Methodist Church, Coalville, Leicestershire

Is'nt that great

Spring Production

As reported last month, there have been problems with getting a spring play but we can now tell you that we are back on track and the dates remain the same - April 15/16/17. The producer Graham Taylor will be known to some of you. He produced 'Silhouette' last spring and he and his wife Debbie were helpers at the Christmas Day dinner.

We have never had a play with such a long title. It is a comedy by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr named 'The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Production of lMacbeth'

It promises to be an evening of laughter. The intrepid ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society are preparing their entry of Macbeth for a place in the area finals and we catch up with them after 9 months of rehearsals!!

Safety Stories for Drivers Obviously not such a safe story

Following the distribution of last month's 'Reporting', I received an e-mail from Margaret Simpson, one of our friends from the URC with a follow up to the story I had passed on to me. I pass on her comments for you.

'I have just been reading Reporting

You may already have been told, but the 112 story on page 16 of Reporting is a version of a hoax e-mail that has appeared in many different versions in many different countries. While much of the advice is worth heeding, this e-mail is incorrect in that the international emergency number 112 number does link people through to 999, but it only works if you have a signal on your mobile phone. If you have no signal bars on your phone, it will not work.
When I get an e-mail with a warning or advice and it asks me to pass it on to all my friends I check it out on Hoax Slayer: It's worth a look, http://www.hoax-slayer.com/

Regards, Margaret
